Cadet Program Awards

CADET COMMANDER OF THE YEAR:  A cadet, who has been a Cadet Commander within the previous three years, but is not currently serving as Cadet Commander.

The cadet must have served as Cadet Commander for at least 8 months.

Nominations will include a summary of the Cadet Commander's accomplishments inside the squadron and a summary of the Cadet Commander's accomplishments outside the squadron.

The winner of this award receives a Commander’s Commendation Award from the Wing Commander.

CADET NCO OF THE YEAR: Award is patterned after the Air Force Sergeants Association Award. Copies of the nomination send to the AFSA and to Wing Awards Board are considered in this selection. 

The winner of this award receives a Commander’s Commendation Award from the Wing Commander.

CADET OF THE YEAR selection is based upon outstanding achievements contributed to the success of CAP's Missions over the years. The selection is based on the cadet's lifetime contributions, not just his or her accomplishments during the year nominated.

The winner is nominated for the NCR Cadet of the Year Award and receives a Commander's Commendation Award from the Wing Commander.

Description of Criteria for the National Cadet of the Year Award from CAPR 39-3:

An annual award established to recognize the most outstanding cadet in CAP. To be eligible for this award, the cadet must meet the following minimum criteria:

(1) Received the Amelia Earhart Award (or higher),
(2) Demonstrated outstanding leadership in CAP,
(3) Attained academic excellence in school, and
(4) Be at least a junior in high school.

The outstanding Cadet of the Year is nominated from selected cadets within each wing by a wing selection board. Unit commanders of a cadet or composite unit are limited to one nomination from their unit for the wing selection.

NOTE: This documentation must be complete at the time the Awards Board meets. Incomplete nominations will not be considered. All of the forms must be complete, signed and supporting documents attached. This is due to the fact that the suspense to NCR is in Early January for this award.

Capt Pabon will work with you if you are missing elements at the time of nomination but the packet must be complete prior to the awards board meeting.

Nominations can be made by going to the online form available here for all awards except the Cadet of the Year.

Cadet of the Year must be nominated on CAPF 58 (singed by the Unit Commander) and sent to Capt Pabon in 3 copies (including the original) and the following documentation:

·        Transcript of High School AND College grades (if Applicable)

·        SAT or ACT Scores

·        A recent full length photo in uniform (with all authorized ribbons and badges) and no hat (Service Dress Suggested) Electronic photos to Major Johnson are preferred.

·        Up to a maximum of 3 letters of recommendation

·        Nominations are to be sent to Major Kim Johnson at Wing Headquarters

·        All nominations received will be acknowledged by e-mail within 24 hours of receipt.

Tips:

1.      Provide as much detail as possible regarding the cadet’s duty performance. List significant accomplishments and goals achieved.

2.      Describe the duties the cadet has been assigned to and how well he has accomplished them.

3.      Describe how this member’s performance has impacted the unit and community.

4.      List what major activities the member has participated in.

5.      Describe how the member has advanced in the cadet program.

6.      Describe how the cadet has been involved in the Aerospace Education and Emergency Services Missions of CAP

7.      Describe the cadet’s involvement in the community and accomplishments in school/home school

8.      Self-nomination is not encouraged.

9.      Remember that less detail is not more. The more detail provided allows the board to see the whole member.
