Update from Lt Col Troy Krabbenhoft
North Dakota Wing Public
Affairs Officer
Here is today's main events:
0900 we started up the Command Post. Lt Col Erik Ludlow was
the Incident Commander and I served as the Ground Branch
Director.
Members started to arrive around 0930 to 1000hrs and we had
our first ground team crew to a house in Highland Park
We ran out of work to do there, so we
dispatched to the KFGO "Mighty 790" radio tower room. If
that flooded several people would be out with no radio to
really know what was going on.
C/CMSgt Kurt Altenburg was on the CNN
page, but they called him an "Army Soldier". We were thanked
over KFGO 790's air for the support both MN and ND Wings got
a shout out... Our wing commander, Col Karl Altenburg
was there by 1100hrs along with several members from the Red
River Valley squadron for the initial activation of the
command post.
We have over 55 members here now from as far as Minot in
North Dakota. Several teams from MN have arrived and are
staying on the North Dakota Air National Guard base, and
some are staying in empty dorms on the Minnesota State
University Moorhead Campus.
We did send and aircraft up at 1300hrs and was grounded due
to weather at 1330. They did get a bunch of pictures though,
and are being sent to me...
We had several success stories today.
The command post is still up and running. It is going to be
a 24 hour operation with other members taking over for the
day crew.
The Safety officer shut us down for
outdoor activities, but right now we have troops at the
Fargo Dome filling sand bags. Last heard we needed 700,000
more. I think 2 million are already filled and placed on
dikes. the flood forecast rose again today to 41 feet so
everyone is going back to put another foot or so on their
dikes....
I think that is all I have for now...
