Update from Major Al Pabon
Director of Public Affairs, North
Central Region
Update from Fargo Command Post - March
25th 2009
CAP is operating on a 24/7 basis in very snowy and cold
weather to keep the sand bagging operation going in the
Fargo-Moorhead Area. Cadets and Senior from the North Dakota
and Minnesota Wings are working together under some very
tough conditions. Movement is difficult because of the
weather. Most businesses, schools etc are closed but over 70
of our members, hundreds of national guard troops and
members of the community continue to give their very best.
We are obviously not engaged in flight operations but
aircrews are ready to provide aerial images to disaster
management officials when we get the call. Members from
Minnesota Wing continue to join the efforts.
Weather reports indicate that the Red River will probably
crest in the Fargo-Moorhead area sometime on Friday.
Our members are doing an outstanding job under very
difficult conditions. They are truly "Citizens serving their
Communities: Above and Beyond."
Yesterday President Obama issued a Disaster Declaration for
selected counties in North Dakota.
Members who want to help please work with the Emergency
Services Directors in your Wings. Please do consider making
a donation to a disaster relief agency such as the Red Cross
or Salvation Army. Thay are doing great work for the
community and the responders. The funds collected help them
to keep critical services going.
Thanks to Incident Commander Col Karl Altenburg, Lt Col Erik
Ludlow and Lt Col Troy Krabbenhoft for their help with this
update.
I will have another update for you later today.
Please keep the people of the Dakotas
and Western Minnesota in your thoughts and prayers.
