Update from Major Al Pabon
Director of Public Affairs, North
Central Region
Good Morning,
CAP Volunteers continue operations in North Dakota as the
food waters rise to potentially record levels.
Media reports are suggesting that the Red River will crest
in the Fargo-Moorhead area at 41 feet on Saturday.
Volunteers are working very hard to add a foot to the levies
before day’s end today. That translates into another 500,000
sandbags being placed today
Capt Rich Sprouse, MN Wing Group 2 PAO will be joining the
team in Fargo today as an on site Information Officer.
This morning Col Altenburg resumes duties and Incident
Commander, Lt Col Ludlow serves as Ground Branch Director
and Col Volmers works as Air Branch Director.
We have posted images taken by 2d Lt Don Raleigh, MN Wing.
These are of CAP Members sandbagging yesterday as well as
some other interesting shots.
They are now up on the website
at

Major Bill Kay, ND wing Director of Operations asked me to
share information with you about operations in Western North
Dakota and operations prior to Monday in support of this
mission.
The full
text of his large update can be read here.
Media Coverage:
C/CMSgt David Nelson of MN Wing’s Red Wing Squadron is
providing Text updates to the Red Wing Republican eagle
Newspaper. Follow this link to see David’s messages:

The Eagle also ran a story yesterday on Red Wing Members
working in the Flood Zone.
In Closing:
Operations continue for the foreseeable future. We expect to
begin damage assessment flights as weather allows.
This is a truly “historic” disaster. Infrastructure,
businesses and homes are being flooded out. Volunteers are
fighting the Red River in a heroic effort to save their
homes and communities. Civil Air Patrol is serving on the
ground and ready to serve in the air. Truly “Citizens
Serving their Communities: Above and Beyond.”
I could not be prouder to serve with a more magnificent
group of Americans.
Thanks to Col Karl Altenburg, Major Bill
Kay, Major Don Dalton and 2d Lt Don Raleigh for their
contributions to this update.
More later today.
