Fargo, ND The Red River Valley and the 119th Air National
Guard Cadet squadrons, with Colonel Walt Vollmers as the
pilot in command scrambled an aircraft on April 14, 2009 to
aerially assess the Cottonwood Creek Dam located near
LaMoure, ND on Lake LaMoure. The ND State Water Commission
requested photos so engineers are able to analyze the
condition of the dam and spillway.
The aerial assessment revealed the emergency spillway for
the dam was flowing and causing soil erosion in the
spillway. Todd Sando, State Water Commission Assistant State
Engineer said, It is very helpful to have the Civil Air
Patrol provide aerial photos so we can react quickly to this
situation.
Cadet 2nd Lt. Eric Jacobson took aerial photos of the dam
while Lt Col Troy Krabbenhoft plotted the latitude and
longitude of the site as well as the direction the photo was
taken for the State Water Commission.
