FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Civil Air Patrol Assisting in Historic Flooding

Over 100 Civil Air Patrol Members from Minnesota and North Dakota are engaged in Disaster Relief Operations in the vicinity of Fargo, North Dakota. Additional members from Minnesota are expected to join them today.

Members from the two states began filling sand bags and positioning them so damage is prevented to homes and critical assets in the community while aircrews were able to get limited images of some of the flooded areas for emergency management officials.

A website has been set up with daily updates and images posted to it. The site can be accessed at http://www.ncrpao.org/specials/2009_floods/index.htm

Officials expect the Red River to Crest on Thursday.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 57,000 members nationwide. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counterdrug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 22,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP has been performing missions for America for 67 years. For more information, visit www.gocivilairpatrol.com.
