Roughriders Assist Victims in Beulah
1st Lt Kim Hetzel, ND Wing March 30th 2009

3 Officers and 8 cadets
spent the weekend in Beulah helping flood victims by
assisting the Red Cross and Salvation Army.
Over 200 homes were affected by the Beulah flood. The
Salvation Army and Red Cross were very active helping the
flood victims. Area churches were providing lunches and
suppers for people in need and volunteers. Our CAP disaster
relief team was lodged at the Civic Center and slept on Red
Cross cots. The Salvation Army provided breakfast and
snacks.
Squadron members assisted
in the clean-up efforts by removing snow drifts from drives
and doorways before entering basements to carry soggy
belongings to the curb. The cadets helped fill sand bags
needed for the anticipated flooding due to this current
blizzard.
The day ended with
another blizzard catching us before we got home.
After leaving cadets in
Dickinson my daughter (Cadet Jamie Hetzel) and I got caught
for 2 hours on I-94 behind a jack-knifed semi-truck. Thanks
to the CAP van's radio they knew help was coming with
sanding trucks and a tow-truck.
Now we are back to where we were last week. Snowed in and
unable to answer the calls for help from the east.
